Three Counties
Breeding Corn Bunting Survey

Corn Bunting © Steve Riall

The Corn Bunting population in Britain has undergone a 90% breeding population decline during the period 1970–2010, accompanied by contractions of 27% in winter range since the 1981–1984 Winter Atlas and a 56% contraction in breeding range since the 1968–1972 Breeding Atlas.

At the tetrad scale in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire reductions in the distribution of Corn Buntings of between 62% and 27% over the past 20 years have been identified.

The purpose of this collaboration between the Bedfordshire Bird Club, the Cambridgeshire Bird Club and the Herts Bird Club ws to undertake a sample survey of Corn Buntings in the three counties to establish up-to-date population estimates.
